STONEWALL, La. -- The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting Sunday afternoon at a Stonewall convenience store that left one person injured and another person in custody.

The shooting happened at the Shell gas station and convenience store on U.S. Highway 171.

Few details were immediately available; however, sheriff's office spokesman Deputy Mark Pierce said one person was shot in the stomach and taken to Ochsner LSU Health hospital. The person was conscious and alert.

Retired DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle was getting gas at the station when he said he heard gunshots from inside the store.

Several men ran out, and Arbucke said he got a partial license plate number of their vehicle before going inside and providing first aid to the victim before DeSoto EMS arrived.

Pierce didn't have details about what led up to the shooting or details about the man in custody, other than to say later he is the suspected shooter.

He expects to release more information after talking to investigators.
