TEXARKANA, Ark. — An Arkansas man will spend the next eight decades behind bars for his role in a fatal shooting that occurred two years ago.

The investigation began around 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 12, when Texarkana Arkansas Police Department officers rushed to the 2500 block of East 24th Street following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, police discovered Marious L. Bradley, 17, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

While police officers and Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department personnel attempted to save the teenager's life, Bradley died from his injuries.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene unit took over the case. Detectives eventually focused on Tyrese Jefferson, 19, as the prime suspect.

On Monday, a jury convicted Jefferson in Bradley's death. A judge handed down a 40-year term for the murder charge alongside consecutive 20-year sentences for two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm. In total, Jefferson was ordered to serve an 80-year sentence within the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Following the verdict, representatives with the Miller County Prosecutor’s Office praised the responding patrol officers and investigators for their meticulous work on the case. Prosecutors noted that the initial evidence collected at the scene, combined with skilled interrogation strategies, successfully secured a confession and a conviction in court.
