Man arrested in witness intimidation case

JONESBORO — A $50,000 bond was set Monday for a Jonesboro man accused of intimidating a witness in a court case.

Charles Beare, 26, of Jonesboro, was arrested Aug. 22 after Jonesboro police went to Garden Manor due to a disturbance.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim told police that several males had arrived at his residence and threatened him.

The victim also told police that a family member of Beare's had been recently arrested on suspicion of stealing the victim's firearm.

"The victim stated that, following (the family member's) arrest, Charles Beare came to the victim's apartment and asked him, 'What we doing, bro?' You gone drop the charges or not," Jonesboro police said in the affidavit. "The victim stated that the conversation escalated, at which point Charles Beare told him to come around the corner to 'shoot it out.'"

Police asked the victim if he knew whether or not Beare was armed, and the victim said he did not know.

Police later found Beare on David Cove.

"When officers made contact with Beare, he admitted to speaking with the victim but stated that the conversation was regarding a different incident," Jonesboro police said.

During a court appearance Monday, Beare told a judge that he did not threaten the victim, speak to anybody and never spoke to the witness.

According to the affidavit, Beare was arrested Aug. 19 on suspicion of possession of firearms charges and is on probation.

Beare was being held Monday in the Craighead County jail, awaiting a Sept. 30 arraignment in circuit court.

Other case

Another probable cause hearing Monday was:

• Jalen Jakel McCullough, 22, of Jonesboro — theft by receiving firearm less than $2,500 and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. A $5,000 bond was set in the case and McCullough will be arraigned Oct. 26 in circuit court.
