SHREVEPORT, La. - An extreme heat warning and a heat advisory remain in effect across the region through 9 p.m. Friday as dangerous temperatures affect the area.

High temperatures are forecast to reach 100 to 105 degrees. Heat index values could reach up to 114 degrees in the warning area and approach 110 degrees in the advisory area.

The extreme heat warning covers portions of East Texas, Northwest Louisiana, and South Arkansas, including Shreveport, Monroe, El Dorado, Longview, and Natchitoches. A heat advisory covers the remainder of the region, including Texarkana, Tyler, and Mount Pleasant.

Weather officials advise residents to stay hydrated, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and limit strenuous outdoor activity in the afternoon. People are also encouraged to use air conditioning, as fans may not provide adequate cooling in extreme heat.
