Former Mizzou men’s basketball player Mark Mitchell, along with several other college athletes had their lawsuit delayed by Kentucky judge Brian C. Edwards. The Jefferson County judge is expected to make a ruling late next week after a hearing Friday.

Both sides will have until Tuesday to submit additional material. Mitchell and the other athletes are represented by attorney Ryan Downton.

Mitchell entered the transfer portal on July 31 after a Colorado judge ruled that all athletes from the high school class of 2022 are eligible for a fifth year of collegiate athletics. Downton stated that the ruling was incomplete as it included antitrust issues and failed to address the Kentucky contract-law claims.

Mitchell and the other athletes are allowed to enroll in a school at this time, but are forbidden from competing. Kentucky has been viewed as a possible landing spot for Mitchell, being “prominently linked” to the school according to The Courier-Journal in Louisville.

After the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, the former Mizzou basketball player went undrafted and signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Denver Nuggets. Mitchell played in three games in the NBA Summer League, averaging 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per outing.

At Mizzou, he earned All-SEC honors over the spain of two seasons. Last year, Mitchell averaged 18.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

A ruling in the case is expected by the end of next week.
