The Boston Celtics announced their 2026 Vegas Summer League roster Wednesday, which included two familiar names for Mizzou fans making the cut.

Caleb Grill, who played for Mizzou from 2023-25, will get his shot with the Boston Summer League squad after one season in the G League. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 10.1 points per game last season and was traded from the Windy City Bulls to the Greensboro Swarm during the season.

Grill was a standout guard during his second season in Columbia following an injury-riddled 2023-24 season.

During his final year, Grill was named the SEC Sixth Man of the Year while ranking second on the team with 13.7 points per game and first during conference play with 14.8 points. He also became the first Tiger with at least four games of six made 3s since 2011-12.

Joining Grill on the 16-man roster is former Mizzou guard John Tonje, who spent the 2023-24 season at Missouri. He signed a two-way contract with Boston in March after being taken with the 53rd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Tonje’s one season with Missouri was cut short, as he appeared in eight games before a foot injury forced him to sit out the remainder of the season. He then transferred to Wisconsin. With the Badgers, Tonje was unanimously named to the All-Big Ten first team and was a 2025 Naismith Player of the Year semifinalist.

Whether it’s Grill utilizing his G League experience to earn a standard contract or Tonje looking to build on the two-way minutes he earned with Boston last spring, both have an opportunity to shine.

Earlier reports indicated former MU center Shawn Phillips would be on the New Orleans Pelicans’ Summer League roster, but Phillips was not included when the team released its official roster Monday.

Tigers’ nonconference schedule takes further shape with game at IU

College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported Wednesday that the Tigers are finalizing an agreement to play Indiana on Dec. 18. According to Rothstein, the game will be played in Bloomington, Indiana, with no return matchup scheduled in Columbia.

Additionally, the Tigers’ previously reported matchup against Evansville was confirmed Wednesday by Evansville. The two teams will meet Nov. 24 at Mizzou Arena.

The matchup marks the third all-time meeting between the Tigers and Purple Aces, with Missouri winning both of the previous two contests. Evansville competes in the Missouri Valley Conference and is led by coach David Ragland.
