Former Mizzou player Mark Mitchell enters transfer portal after receiving fifth year of eligibility

Former Mizzou men’s basketball player Mark Mitchell received a fifth year of eligibility following a class-wide preliminary injunction in the U.S. District Court of Colorado to give all players from the high school Class of 2022 an extra year of eligibility who exhausted their four seasons in the spring. The news of the injunction was first reported by Boise State associate professor Sam Ehrlich.

Mitchell entered the transfer portal several hours after the decision was announced, as first reported by Jeff Borzello of ESPN. The report said Mitchell has spoken with multiple schools in the past several weeks as he considers his options.

Mitchell played two seasons at Mizzou after spending his first two years with Duke. He was a two-time All-SEC selection, averaging 16.1 points and 4.9 rebounds as a Tiger. He helped lead Mizzou to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

The former Tiger signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Denver Nuggets after going undrafted. Mitchell averaged 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds while playing in three games in the NBA Summer League.

He is originally from Kansas City, Kansas, listed at 6-foot-9 and 230 pounds. He is the second Mizzou men’s basketball player from the 2025-26 roster to be granted an extra year of eligibility, joining Shawn Phillips Jr., who received an order in an Ohio court earlier this month. Phillips was slated to play in the NBA Summer League with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Jevon Porter fits the same criteria as Mitchell and will likely be eligible for a fifth season as a part of the injunction.

For Mitchell and the rest of the players eligible in the injunction, the transfer portal will be open from Monday to Aug. 10.
