GENEVA — The Liberty League released its weekly performer honors on Monday, and the results made for encouraging reading in Geneva. Hobart and William Smith combined for six selections across four sports, capping a productive weekend for both programs.

FIELD HOCKEYOffensive Performer of the Week: Eliza Freeland, William Smith

Junior forward Eliza Freeland has been a part of the Herons field hockey team since 2024 and is a starter this season for the first time in her tenure. Freeland had two goals in a 4-0 William Smith victory over Lebanon Valley on Sunday. She has started all five games for her team this season, totaling four goals. In each of the three games in which she has scored, the Herons won.

Defensive Performer of the Week: Caroline Kogut, William Smith

Caroline Kogut, the junior defenseman for William Smith, is in her third year as a starter. Kogut was integral to the Herons’ shutout victory over Lebanon Valley on Sunday and even chipped in a goal for good measure, which was her second of the year.

The Herons are 3-2 on the season.

FOOTBALLDefensive Performer of the Week: Zeshan Dixon, Hobart

The fourth-year Statesman and third-year starter had his best game as a collegiate athlete on Saturday in a 27-14 victory over SUNY Brockport. His first of three interceptions was a one-handed snag that landed him on SportsCenter’s top 10 plays of the weekend. His third of the game, he took to the house for a pick-six that put the game out of reach. It was the first time a Statesman had three interceptions in a game since Nov. 22, 2008. In addition to this historic performance, he added 13 total tackles (10 solo).

Special Teams Performer of the Week: Vicente Lyon, Hobart

The reigning Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year showed why he holds that title on Saturday in what was a complete team performance by the Statesmen. With a Hobart defense that allows 15 points per game, opponents are forced to value field position above all else. Lyon made sure to keep the Golden Eagles hopeless, pinning them inside their own 11-yard line three times, including once at their 1-yard line. He had seven punts for 295 yards in the win, an average of 42.1 yards per punt.

The Statesmen are 2-0 on the season.

WOMEN’S SOCCERRookie of the Week: Grace Sudbay, William Smith

The first-year Heron has started in each of her last three games and opened the scoring on Sunday for William Smith in a 2-1 victory over Carnegie Mellon. It was her first career goal, and it only took the midfielder one shot to score in the contest. The Herons are 3-1 on the season.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALLRookie of the Week: Cassidy Breuer, William Smith

The first-year outside hitter from Texas has made a Lone Star State-sized impact for the Herons this season. She has had 10 or more kills and seven or more digs in each of her first six matches, with 18 kills or better in four of those. The Herons are 5-1 in that span. Her most recent performance came on Saturday against William Paterson University, in which she had 18 kills on a season-low four errors. Just two matches prior, she tied her career high in kills with 19. She leads her team in that metric with 97. The next-closest Heron, Emily Fulton, has 70.

Across the four sports, the honorees ranged from proven upperclassmen to first-years. Juniors Eliza Freeland and Caroline Kogut, along with Hobart veterans Zeshan Dixon and Vicente Lyon, set the tone, while rookies Grace Sudbay and Cassidy Breuer offered a glimpse of what may lie ahead for William Smith. It amounted to a weekend that rewarded both experience and emerging talent across the two programs.
