Mizzou’s deputy athletic director, chief operating officer and senior female administrator, Marcy Girton, is retiring from all three positions in August. She joined Mizzou in 2023, served as a sport administrator for football and softball and was interim athletic director during the transitional period before Laird Veatch was hired in 2024.

“I am so appreciative of the incredible opportunity to have spent 43 years in collegiate athletics,” Girton said in a press release. “The greatest joy of this journey has been the privilege of working alongside outstanding student-athletes, coaches and staff who continually strive for excellence and make a meaningful impact on those around them. I am especially thankful to conclude my career as a Missouri Tiger.”

“Marcy has been an invaluable member of our leadership team during one of the most transformational periods in college athletics,” Veatch said. “Her steady leadership, thoughtful guidance and commitment to our student-athletes and staff have elevated our department in countless ways. She has helped position Mizzou Athletics for long-term success while serving with integrity and professionalism. We are deeply grateful for her dedication to Mizzou Athletics and wish her all the best in a well-earned retirement.”

To replace Girton, Mizzou is creating a role, the deputy athletic director/chief of Olympic sport leadership, which will partner “closely with head coaches to develop championship strategies in key areas such as recruiting, scheduling, budgeting and student-athlete success” and replace Girton as senior woman administrator. Mizzou will begin the search in coming days.

Mizzou has also hired Bryan Maggard as its deputy AD/COO and men’s basketball administrator, as first reported by CollegeAD via X. Maggard served as Louisiana’s athletic director starting in 2017 and added the title of vice president for intercollegiate athletics in 2021. The Ragin’ Cajuns won 20 total Sun Belt Conference championships during his time at Louisiana. Maggard was appointed the College Football Playoff committee in March.

“Bryan’s extensive leadership experience, proven record of building championship-caliber athletics departments and deep understanding of Mizzou make him an outstanding addition to our Senior Leadership Team,” Veatch said. “Bryan embraces our vision and knows what it takes to compete for championships. We’re incredibly excited to welcome Bryan, his wife Kerry and their family back to Columbia.”

Before his stint at Louisiana, Maggard spent 22 seasons at Mizzou, serving in a variety of roles which most recently included executive associate athletics director.

Mizzou also announced a handful of other front office changes, with current staff members being given new roles.

Nick Grunenwald was elevated to executive athletic director/senior counsel for athletics. Katie Martinez will take on a new role as associate athletic director/olympic sport leadership, where she will report to the newly created role chief of olympic sport leadership.

Michael Schroeder is now executive athletic director/chief brand officer, while Dave Matter is senior athletic director/strategic communications and creative media. Connor Jordan is now associate athletic director/strategic revenues, along with Josh Moore now being associate athletic director/marketing and fan experience.
