Why Mid Cap Blend
Mid cap companies have market capitalization between $2 billion and $10 billion. They usually have higher growth prospects than large cap companies and are less volatile than small cap companies. Thus they have a nice balance of growth potential and stability.
Blend ETFs are aptly named, since they tend to hold a mix of growth and value stocks, as well as show characteristics of both kinds of equities.
Costs
Since cheaper funds tend to produce better results than more expensive funds, assuming all other factors remain equal, it is important for investors to pay attention to an ETF's expense ratio.
Annual operating expenses for this ETF are 0.23%, putting it on par with most peer products in the space.
It has a 12-month trailing dividend yield of 1.02%.
Sector Exposure and Top Holdings
While ETFs offer diversified exposure, which minimizes single stock risk, a deep look into a fund's holdings is a valuable exercise. And, most ETFs are very transparent products that disclose their holdings on a daily basis.
This ETF has heaviest allocation to the Industrials sector -- about 24.1% of the portfolio. Financials and Information Technology round out the top three.
Looking at individual holdings, Twilio Inc. Class A (TWLO) accounts for about 1.05% of total assets, followed by Everpure Inc. Class A (P) and Ati Inc (ATI).
The top 10 holdings account for about 7.95% of total assets under management.
Performance and Risk
MDY seeks to match the performance of the S&P MidCap 400 Index before fees and expenses. The S&P MidCap 400 Index is composed of 400 selected stocks listed on national stock exchanges, and spans a broad range of major industry groups.
The ETF has added roughly 15% so far this year and it's up approximately 16.64% in the last one year (as of 08/31/2026). In the past 52-week period, it has traded between $568.63 and $716.91.
