Spokane fire assistance center offers free birth certificate help

The agencies said that free replacement birth certificates for people born in Washington state were available Aug. 11-12 at the Spokane Complex Fire Disaster Assistance Center at Shadle Park High School.
“We understand the burden our neighbors face when they lose important documents,” Aja Richardson, SRHD's Vital Records program manager, said. “SRHD and our partners at Washington DOH are here to help people get the new documents they need.”
The announcement also pointed to recent emergency actions by Gov. Bob Ferguson that included support for replacing personal documents lost or damaged in wildfires.
Officials said that other records, including driver's licenses, Social Security cards, passports, marriage records and divorce records, were handled by other agencies. They encouraged people to contact the agency tied to each document to ask about replacement steps and any emergency help.
SRHD also urged people to use caution when ordering vital records online. The agency said VitalChek was the only approved third-party vendor for SRHD online vital-record orders.
