OKLAHOMA CITY – A long-time state official has been named Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services executive director.
Sterling Zearley, 63, had been serving as interim director since June 22. He replaces Melinda Fruendt.
He’ll be paid $216,000 to lead the agency, which helps those with disabilities obtain employment and self-sufficiency as well as oversees Oklahoma’s schools for the deaf and blind..
Zearley spent 25 years with the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation. He was executive director of the Oklahoma Public Employees Association for 16 years.
Zearley holds a master’s of education and a bachelor’s of science.
“I’m grateful to the Commission for their faith and trust in me,” Zearley said. “I look forward to leading the agency in a bold new direction.”
