ISC2 to establish technical standards for emerging cybersecurity challenges through consensus-based processes accredited by the American National Standards Institute

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ISC2 – the world's leading nonprofit member organization for cybersecurity professionals – today announced it has become the first cybersecurity certification organization to be granted Accredited Standards Developer (ASD) status by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Building on this designation, the organization established the ISC2 Standards Development Group (SDG), a dedicated function responsible for developing, publishing and maintaining American National Standards.

Recognition from the Leading Standards Authority

The ASD designation signifies that ISC2 has demonstrated the organizational capability, governance structure, and procedural framework necessary to develop technically sound, fair and broadly supported standards in accordance with ANSI requirements. The accreditation enables ISC2 to convene members and other cybersecurity experts to influence and define cybersecurity standards that benefit the industry, the profession and the collective security of consumers and organizations around the world.

ISC2 to Develop New Standards

Through SDG, ISC2 will adhere to an established standards development program and accredited procedures that align with ANSI's Essential Requirements, including principles of openness, balance, due process, consensus and the right to appeal.

ISC2 will invite participation from cybersecurity professionals, industry representatives, academics, government stakeholders and others interested in helping shape the future of the cybersecurity profession through standards development. Opportunities may include:

  • Drafting and reviewing draft standards
