Meta Platforms META shares soared 11.3% in the last trading session to close at $741.25. The move was backed by solid volume with far more shares changing hands than in a normal session. This compares to the stock's 21.1% gain over the past four weeks.

The optimism surrounding the stock can be attributed to strong advertising growth, with Family of Apps ad revenue rising 27% year over year in the second-quarter of 2026, driven by higher ad impressions and pricing. Further, AI-led improvements in ad performance and recommendations are supporting monetization, while Advantage+ reached more than $75 billion in annual revenue run rate in the second quarter of 2026, are supporting the company’s growth outlook.

This social media company is expected to post quarterly earnings of $6.39 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of -11.9%. Revenues are expected to be $63.18 billion, up 23.3% from the year-ago quarter.

While earnings and revenue growth expectations are important in evaluating the potential strength in a stock, empirical research shows a strong correlation between trends in earnings estimate revisions and near-term stock price movements.

For Meta Platforms, the consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has been revised 3.4% lower over the last 30 days to the current level. And a negative trend in earnings estimate revisions doesn't usually translate into price appreciation. So, make sure to keep an eye on META going forward to see if this recent jump can turn into more strength down the road.
