IONQ Q2 Earnings Call Highlights SkyWater-Led Quantum Road Map
IonQ raises 2026 revenue outlook after record Q2 sales, as SkyWater advances its 256-qubit system and vertically integrated quantum road map.
IonQ, Inc. IONQ used its second-quarter 2026 earnings call to frame record revenues as evidence that quantum-computing deployments are scaling, while directing attention toward its semiconductor road map and the newly closed SkyWater acquisition.
Management raised the full-year revenue outlook, but the earnings call also underscored heavy investment, integration complexity and the need to turn technical milestones into commissioned systems in 2027.
Chairman and CEO Niccolo de Masi said that second-quarter revenues reached $80.1 million, up 287% year over year and marking a fifth consecutive quarterly record. The metric surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $66.4 million. Adjusted loss of 33 cents per share was wider than the consensus estimate of 29 cents.
CFO and COO Inder Singh said that fifth-generation system deployments were the largest driver, while organic revenue grew 132%.
IONQ Lifts Full-Year Revenue View
IonQ raised its 2026 revenue outlook to $280 million-$290 million and maintained its expectation for 100% organic growth. Singh stressed that the guidance covers IonQ alone and excludes SkyWater contributions.
IonQ Advances Semiconductor QPUs
De Masi said that IonQ received its first fully featured, integrated quantum processing units from SkyWater and began testing them in College Park. The 256-qubit system remains targeted for commissioning in the first half of 2027.
Management also said that work is progressing on a 10,000-qubit chip. IonQ separately demonstrated breakeven quantum error correction using qLDPC codes on a Tempo engineering system.
A B. Riley Securities analyst pressed management on the steps between chip testing and customer commissioning. De Masi said that the chip represented the hardest element and that IonQ’s compiler, control and system-integration experience should support the remaining work.
IONQ Defends the Merchant Model
IonQ closed its $1.8 billion acquisition of SkyWater after quarter-end, bringing chip design, fabrication, packaging and system deployment under one structure. Management positioned the deal as a way to speed QPU iteration and secure domestic manufacturing.
A Morgan Stanley analyst asked whether the foundry would primarily serve IonQ or outside customers. De Masi said that both priorities remain central, describing SkyWater as a merchant supplier to multiple quantum modalities.
He also emphasized physical and digital protections for customer intellectual property. The Nexus Photonics acquisition adds integrated photonics capabilities that IonQ plans to use internally and offer through SkyWater’s foundry platform.
IonQ Expands Revenue Breadth
Singh said that international customers generated about 50% of quarterly revenues, commercial customers accounted for 60%, and multi-product sales represented roughly 25%. He tied the international mix to deployments in South Korea and Switzerland.
Remaining performance obligations ended the quarter at $485 million compared with $470 million in the first quarter and $122 million a year earlier. Management presented the increase as forward revenue visibility despite converting backlog into second-quarter sales.
In Q&A, Singh highlighted quantum computing as a service and application development. He described QCaaS as a high-margin offering growing faster than the organic computing business, while software ownership depends on contract terms.
IONQ Clarifies Spending and Guidance
GAAP operating expenses were $417.3 million, including $160.6 million of research and development spending. Adjusted EBITDA loss was $120.3 million as IonQ accelerated hardware development and prepared for the SkyWater combination.
Singh said that increased spending with SkyWater reflected faster roadmap progress. He also cited roughly $10 million of higher pre-integration and supply-chain investment.
A Northland Capital Markets analyst questioned whether the full-year outlook implied sequential revenue declines in the second half. Singh rejected that interpretation and said that IonQ plans for growth but will wait for combined-company guidance until it reviews intercompany eliminations and purchase-accounting effects.
IonQ Keeps Focus on Execution
Across prepared remarks and Q&A, de Masi centered the strategy on a vertically integrated platform spanning computing, networking, security, sensing and semiconductor manufacturing.
Singh kept the operating focus on scaling deployments, cross-selling products and building leverage over time, while acknowledging that combined guidance requires further integration work after the SkyWater close.
