EXETER TWP., Pa. - A Berks County woman has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the death of her three-year-old daughter in 2022, attorneys say.

District Attorney John Adams says 37-year-old Solange J. White pleaded guilty but mentally ill to third-degree murder. The plea comes the same day her trial was scheduled to start.

White was previously charged in 2022 with criminal homicide, endangering the welfare of children, and aggravated assault, officials say.

A man inside the home at the time reported that he believed White had strangled the 3-year-old, who was not moving and was blue in the face, according to court documents.

CPR was performed on the child, and investigators noticed visible marks and bruising on her neck, consistent with strangulation-type injuries, according to the court documents.

The young girl was taken to Reading Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

White was also taken to the hospital for undisclosed injuries following the incident. She was treated, released, and then taken into custody, police say.

Attorney John Adams says the sentencing hearing is ongoing, and he expects White to be sentenced later this week.
